Should You Actually Be Eating More to Stay Warm This Winter?

This sounds like an excuse to eat more stuffing at Thanksgiving or another handful of Christmas cookies

There’s nothing like a warm cup of tea to comfort you during the winter.

Although it would be reassuring to know that eating more during the cold winter months would keep our bodies warm, the notion is simply not true. However, the good news is that eating certain foods can naturally warm your body and prevent you from overeating.

You are not alone if you are craving cheesy pasta dishes or bowls of hearty soup. Comfort food coined the name because eating warm and delicious meals give the body a warm sensation from the inside out. Our bodies do need fuel to power through the winter, but unless you revamped your workout routine, you do not need any more fuel than you would on a regular basis.

You can still enjoy your comfort food in the winter but when possible, opt for whole grain pasta and lean proteins such as turkey, chicken, and fish and add winter vegetables such as squash, sweet potatoes, and Brussels sprouts.
